They abound with life and their inhabitants are familiar to us all. However, over 90% of our wetlands are gone and many of our plants and animals now face severe threats.
The Conservation Department can't save everything, and the losses are still mounting. You can help save our precious wetlands.
What is a wetland
A wetland is an area of land whose soil is saturated with moisture either permanently or seasonally.
Such areas may also be covered partially or completely by shallow pools of water.
WETLANDS DIFFERENT STROKES ...
They come in many different guises, including bogs, streams, swamps, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, mudflats and flood plains.
The water found in wetlands can be saltwater, freshwater, or brackish.
